Serving as Opel’s latest creation, the Frontera has been unveiled as a fun and spacious SUV, available right from the start as a battery-electric variant and offering customers the choice of models with 48-volt hybrid technology.

“With its combination of rugged design, spaciousness, clever solutions and efficient drivetrains, our new Opel Frontera will appeal to a wide range of customers who want to stand out from the crowd. It is ideally suited to the urban and sub-urban environment while simultaneously offering a recharging experience to our customers,” said Opel CEO Florian Huettl.

The exterior features the iconic Opel “Blitz” emblem which takes center stage on the Opel Vizor. Inside, the Frontera features a fully digital Pure Panel cockpit, equipped with intuitive controls and a multimedia infotainment system for an enhanced driving experience. Also included is the optional smartphone station, seamlessly integrating mobile devices into the vehicle’s interface, and the patented Intelli-Seat feature, which Opel claims ensures optimal comfort during long journeys.

Prepared as a comprehensive family hauler, the Frontera also includes a cooled wireless charger to flexible storage options for larger devices. In terms of practicality, 460 litres of luggage space in the boot and the option to fold down the rear seats for a total of 1 600 litres of luggage space should do but there are also optional functional roof rails available for buyers.

Starter Classic: Opel Manta (1971 – 1976)

Behind the exterior lies a choice of drivetrains, including a purely battery electric variant and hybrid options although official specs remains under wraps. Pricing is speculated for the European market around the R700 000 mark which places it square in the sights of other upper eschelon crossover SUVs like the Ford Territory or Citroen C3 Aircross along with China’s latest crop of five seater family haulers.
