Not XUV700 or Safari, but this 3-row SUV beat Nexon, Brezza in March 2024

The Tata Nexon and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza are among the largest-selling SUVs in India. They are rarely behind other SUVs when we talk about volumes. But this big, three-row SUV was able to beat both in March 2024. If you think this SUV is the Mahindra XUV700 or the Tata Safari, you are wrong. It is none other than the Mahindra Scorpio (N and Classic).

The Tata Punch and the Hyundai Creta were the two largest-selling models at 17,547 units and 16,458 units, respectively, in March 2024. While the Maruti Suzuki Brezza did 14,614 units, the Tata Nexon clocked 14,058 units during the month.

The Mahindra Scorpio raced ahead of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Tata Nexon with sales of 15,151 units in March 2024. These are cumulative volumes for the Mahindra Scorpio-N and the Mahindra Scorpio Classic.

Talking about the Mahindra XUV700, this popular SUV garnered sales of 6,611 units in March 2024. The Tata Safari posted sales of 2,063 units during the month.

The Mahindra Scorpio-N has a couple of engine options — 2.0-litre mStallion TGDi petrol and 2.2-litre mHawk CRDi diesel. The petrol unit produces 203PS and 370Nm with a 6-speed MT, and 203PS and 380Nm with a 6-speed AT. The diesel unit makes 175PS and 370Nm with a 6-speed MT, and 175PS and 400Nm with a 6-speed AT. There is also a less powerful avatar of the diesel unit, which develops 132PS and 300Nm. The Scorpio-N diesel has a 4WD option as well.

Under the hood of the Mahindra Scorpio Classic is a 2.2-litre mHawk CRDi diesel engine, which packs 132PS and 300Nm. The motor is mated to a 6-speed MT. There is no automatic transmission or 4WD.

While the Mahindra Scorpio-N price starts at Rs 13.60 lakh and goes up to Rs 24.54 lakh (ex-showroom), the Mahindra Scorpio Classic is priced between Rs 13.59 lakh and Rs 17.35 lakh (ex-showroom).
