This SUV is driving Hyundai sales in 2024, we are not talking about Exter, Venue

After a stellar performance in 2023, Hyundai Motor India is again putting up a great show in 2024 with the SUV segment being the major force, reaching as high as 67% of the domestic volumes in April. As usual, the popular Creta is leading the charge for the carmaker.

For reference, Hyundai posted its highest-ever annual domestic volumes at 602,111 units in 2023. The company has already sold 210,518 units in January-April 2024, including 50,201 units in April. In every month this year, Hyundai's domestic wholesales have been over 50,000 units.

At Hyundai's April sales briefing, the company's COO Tarun Garg said that the SUV segment's share stood at 67% in April. For the entire year, 2024, it is at 66%.

Garg noted that the contribution of the SUV segment to Hyundai's domestic volumes was much higher in April than the industry share of around 52% this year.

He further said that the Hyundai Creta is going very strong, averaging over 15,000 units every month. The mid-size SUV currently has 35,000 pending bookings.

Hyundai launched the new Creta earlier this year in January. The performance-oriented avatar of the vehicle, the Creta N Line, entered the market in March.

Since January, Hyundai has sold 60,393 units of the Creta at 13,212 units in January, 15,276 units in February, 16,458 units at March and 15,447 units at April.

The powertrain choices in the Creta include 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine (115PS and 144Nm) with 6-speed MT and IVT automatic options, 1.5-litre Kappa Turbo GDi petrol engine (160PS and 253Nm) with 7-speed DCT automatic, and 1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine (116PS and 250Nm) with 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT options.

The Creta N Line gets the 1.5-litre Kappa Turbo GDi petrol engine (160PS and 253Nm) with both manual (6-speed MT) and automatic (7-speed DCT) options. There is no manual transmission option for the standard Creta Turbo GDi.

While the Hyundai Creta is priced between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 20.15 lakh (ex-showroom), the Hyundai Creta N Line sits in the price range of Rs 16.82 lakh to Rs 20.45 lakh (ex-showroom).

Among other SUVs of Hyundai, the Venue and the Exter have also done well, with the former clocking domestic volumes of 39,500 units and the latter
