This SUV has reached 4 lakh sales in under 4 years, it is not Nexon or Brezza

Kia India has announced that its popular compact SUV, the Kia Sonet, has reached the cumulative sales milestone of 4 lakh units in just 44 months of its launch in September 2020.

While 317,754 units of the Kia Sonet have been sold in the domestic market, 85,814 units have been exported.

In the 44 months since launch, 63% of the customers prefer Kia Sonet variants equipped with a sunroof. Regarding engine preference, the vehicle's 1.5-litre diesel engine is preferred by 37% of its customers, while 63% prefer petrol engine options.

In an official statement, Kia said that it has observed a favourable consumer shift towards automatic variants. The 7-speed DCT has gained traction, growing by 37.50% since 2020. While automatic transmissions, 7-speed DCT and 6-speed AT contribute 28%, the iMT makes up 23% of the sales.

Recently, Kia also strengthened the entry and mid-level variants of the Sonet by introducing four new HTE(O) and HTK(O) variants in diesel and petrol engine options. While the HTE(O) gets a sunroof, HTK(O) offers a sunroof along with LED connected taillamps, fully automatic temperature control and rear defogger.

The Kia Sonet has garnered average sales of more than 9,000 units per month. The facelifted version of the compact SUV was launched in January 2024 with additional features like ADAS.

The Kia Sonet price in India now starts at Rs 7.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 15.75 lakh (ex-showroom). It takes on the likes of the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Hyundai Venue.
