Forget Hyundai Verna or Honda City, this is the only sedan driving the segment

FY24 was the best-ever year for the Indian car market, if we look at volumes, which crossed 40,00,000 units for the first time, reaching 42,29,566 units. However, the sedan segment took a hit, declining to 9%. But there is one sedan that has been consistently doing well. It is not Hyundai Verna or Honda City or even the likes of the Hyundai Aura and the Honda Amaze. It is the Maruti Suzuki Dzire.

While the sedan segment's market share declined in FY24, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire was able to improve its own performance by more than 9% year-on-year (y-o-y) at 1.64 lakh units from 1.50 lakh units in FY23. It is the largest-selling sedan in India by long-distance, regularly featuring among the best-selling cars in India.

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has always been admired for its smooth engine, fuel efficiency and spacious cabin. For the segment it is present in, we can say that it gets decent features as well.

At present, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is priced between Rs 6.56 lakh and Rs 9.39 lakh (ex-showroom). It gets features like LED projector headlamps with DRLs, LED rear combination lamps, auto-foldable ORVMs, precision cut dual-tone alloy wheels, multifunction steering wheel, coloured TFT MID, Smartplay Studio touch infotainment system, automatic climate control and cruise control.

At the heart of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is a 1.2-litre K-Series Dual-Jet Dual-VVT petrol engine, which develops 88bhp of maximum power and 113Nm of peak torque. You also get a CNG version (76bhp and 98Nm). The transmission options include 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT with the petrol and 5-speed MT with the CNG.

And like I mentioned before, this is a very fuel-efficient car. Its claimed mileage is 22.41kmpl for the petrol MT, 22.61kmpl for the petrol AMT and 31.12kmpkg for the CNG MT.

We have also got some exciting news for you. Maruti Suzuki India is working on the new Dzire, which is expected to be launched in the country in the September quarter of FY25.

The car has already been spied testing, revealing some new features like new LED headlamps and taillamps, redesigned alloy wheels, a 360-degree camera and an electric sunroof.
