Every Ford Mustang Coupe Is Now Available In Satin

Ford today announced a new option for the 2024 Ford Mustang coupe in all its forms (EcoBoost, GT, and Dark Horse): matte clear film. From tomorrow, this satin-finished protective wrap will be available to order on any Mustang coupe in any color, while drop-top convertible variants will gain access in the fourth quarter of this year.

The Blue Oval says that it expects deliveries for the new matte clear film to begin in June, which could suggest that this is a factory-installed option only available on new cars. If it's a dealer option, will it be available to Mustang owners post-sale?

We've reached out to Ford for clarity and will update this article when we have an answer.

As a reminder, the S650 was revealed with 12 colors in its palette: Atlas Blue, Grabber Blue, Vapor Blue, Iconic Silver, Yellow Splash, Carbonized Gray, Dark Matter, Oxford White, Race Red, Rapid Red, and Shadow Black. Blue Ember Metallic is exclusive to the Dark Horse, and this model can now be specified with a graphic delete as a standalone option.

Ford says that those who order this clear film are robbed of the option to have the standard hood accent stripe and the painted racing stripe. In addition, this clear film upgrade cannot be ordered with the GT California Special package, and the Mustang's optional graphics packages are also withheld when you order the protective wrap.

The new film is priced at $5,995, which is in the same ballpark as a Tesla wrap. Ford's film comes with the same three-year 36,000-mile warranty that the car itself gets. It's unclear how extensive that coverage is, but the automaker says that the coating, made by PPG Industries, is designed to withstand harsh detergents, road salt, bird droppings, bug splatter, and asphalt residue.

«Mustang has been about driving freedom and freedom of expression for 60 years, and our new Matte Clear Film provides a new way for customers to make Mustang their own,» remarked Laurie Transou, Chief Program Engineer for the Mustang.
