Ford Mustang GT's Gen 4 Coyote V8 Now Available As A Crate Engine

Ford Performance has started offering the fourth-generation 5.0-liter Coyote V8 as a crate engine bearing the Aluminator name. While this latest version of the Coyote V8 can be found in the S650 Mustang GT, the crate version gets upgraded internals and is available in two versions.

The Gen 4 Coyote 5.0-liter V8 Aluminator crate engine joins the 580-horsepower 5.2-liter that's being utilized for various builds. The latest crate V8 uses the same aluminum block, oil pan, and crankshafts as the production Mustang GT's power plant but is reinforced for high-performance applications.

There are two versions: the M-6007-A50NAD is naturally aspirated, with a 12.0:1 compression ratio. Meanwhile, the M-6007-A50SCD has a low 9.5:1 compression ratio, which makes it perfect for supercharged/turbocharged applications.

Both versions of the Gen 4 Coyote 5.0-liter V8 Aluminator crate engine come with forged steel crankshaft, Mahle Hard Anodized forged pistons with Grafal low friction coating, Manley H-beam connecting rods with ARP 2000 bolts, and four-valve-per-cylinder aluminum heads with roller-finger followers. The composite Mustang GT intake manifold has been tuned with production dual drive-by-wire 80mm throttle bodies with variable runner control.

The setup for both crate engines includes Ford Performance spark plugs, an oil filter, and billet steel gerotor oil pump gears. However, vehicle harnesses, PCM, exhaust manifolds, and alternators are not part of the package.

The crate engine weighs 529 pounds for the naturally aspirated NAD, while the SCD tips the scales at 530 lbs.

The fourth-gen Coyote V8 is the most powerful version of the eight-pot mill, factory-tuned to 480 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque in the production S650 Mustang GT (500 hp in the Dark Horse). The naturally aspirated NAD version of the crate V8 makes the same amount of power. However, Ford Performance didn't disclose the power figures of the low-compression SCD, primarily because they will depend on the forced induction it is meant to be paired with.

Both Gen 4 Coyote 5.0-liter V8 Aluminator crate engine flavors come with a sticker price of $15,000 — nearly half the starting price of a brand-new Mustang GT.
