BYD exported battery packs on a large scale via aviation for the first time

BYD FinDreams Battery, a division of BYD Group Fudi Battery Co., Ltd., has orchestrated the inaugural large-scale export of its LFP Blade battery packs via air transportation. FinDreams is a subsidiary of BYD, which mainly produces and sells batteries, electronics, motors, and other products.

The momentous event unfolded as a batch of power LFP blade battery packs departed from Huahu Airport in Ezhou, Hubei. Subsequently, it embarked on an SF Airlines flight and successfully touched down at Frankfurt Airport in Germany on the early morning of the 24th.

This marked the first instance of a large power lithium battery pack, crafted in China, being exported via air transport. Stringent international standards dictate that air waybill packages containing lithium batteries exceeding 35kg must secure the A99 special approval letter from the relevant civil aviation administration department. The process encompasses multiple steps, such as lithium battery transportation safety testing, packaging safety testing, emergency drills, and approval of A99-related documentation.

With a single package weight of approximately 300 kg, the Fudi battery pack, designed by BYD, had to undergo a meticulous procedure to meet aviation safety transportation requirements. To comply with these standards, the battery pack was heated when fully charged to assess the safety of the battery under extreme working conditions. The specific scale and the identity of the buyer for this pioneering shipment were not disclosed by BYD. However, industry analysts have speculated that the recipient might be Tesla’s German factory.

Ensuring not only the safety of the product itself but also the security of cargo transportation, the Fudi Battery’s expert team developed aviation-specific explosion-proof boxes for this air transportation initiative.

BYD FinDreams Battery emphasized that successfully completing this air transportation mission is a crucial milestone in pursuing safe power battery transportation in China. This achievement lays the foundation for standardizing and normalizing the air transportation of power batteries.

Amid this groundbreaking venture, it’s noteworthy that BYD, according to data
