2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift launch in India confirmed in May

The Maruti Suzuki Swift is a popular hatchback in India, known for its sporty design, comfortable interiors, and reliable performance. The current model of the Swift is priced between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 9.03 lakh (ex-showroom), and it comes with a 1.2-litre K-Series Dual-Jet Dual-VVT engine that develops 90PS and 113Nm. The engine can be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT, and there is also a CNG option with a manual transmission. The car has a claimed mileage of 22.38kmpl for the petrol MT, 22.56kmpl for the petrol AMT, and 30.90kmpkg for the CNG.

The new Maruti Suzuki Swift, in its fourth-generation avatar, is expected to be launched in India in the first half of May 2024, possibly in the second week. The car was first showcased at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 and has been seen undergoing road tests in India. The new Swift has an updated front with a redesigned grille and headlights, boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, a redesigned front bumper, and new fog lamps. The side profile of the car looks similar to the present model, but the alloy wheels are new. At the rear, the car boasts new LED taillamps, a redone rear bumper, and a tailgate. The car also features a 360-degree camera set-up, with cameras placed on the grille, tailgate, and ORVMs.

The cabin of the new Swift is inspired by the current model line-up of the company, with the climate control unit and infotainment system borrowed from the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. The steering wheel remains the same. The Swift concept, showcased at Japan Mobility Show 2023, had ADAS and ventilated front seats, but it is not expected that the India-spec Swift will have these features at the time of the introduction. The instrument panel remains an analogue unit.

The new Maruti Suzuki Swift price will be higher than that of the current model, and it remains to be seen whether the 1.2-litre K-Series Dual-Jet Dual-VVT engine is carried over to the new Swift or it is updated for even better fuel efficiency. The new Swift is expected to offer bolder exteriors, more comfort, enhanced safety, and loaded technology, again making it a great value-for-money proposition for car buyers in India.
