Watch: Christian von Koenigsegg Gives A Tour Of The Jesko's 5.0-Liter Twin-Turbo V8

Have you ever wondered how Koenigsegg assembles the lightweight internals of its hypercars? Well, let none other than Christian von Koenigsegg himself walk you through the new Jesko Propulsion Center in a new video as he explains the inner workings of the vehicle's Light Speed Transmission (LST) and 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and what makes them so unique.

The Gemera 2+2 hypercar has been stealing much of the Jesko's thunder lately, given its otherworldy powertrains. However, the Jesko is still every bit the revolutionary hypercar it was when it debuted five years ago. This is nowhere more apparent than at its factory, where all the internals are hand-built at surprising speed.

Walking into the workshop, Koenigsegg tells us that everything in there is environmentally controlled and exceptionally clean, a procedure typically seen in high-end watchmaking as opposed to car production. Everything is highly efficient because of the orderly process, allowing the six expert technicians to build three transmissions and engines weekly by hand, which is impressive.

The focus is on the LST first, and it's incredible to see how many moving parts fit into something so compact and light (< 200 pounds). The nine-speed transmission features seven wet multidisc clutches that engage with lightning-quick precision thanks to the simultaneous opening and closing of more than one clutch. The transmission only holds six gears, but thanks to their triangular pattern and three shafts, the company can create nine speeds out of only six gears.

«It's really a work of art,» says Koenigsegg. «You get the sense of Swiss watch-like mechanics and a jewelry-like feel and very high precision. And, of course, we are talking about high rotational speeds of shafts at high pressure, and it needs to have a long lifespan with these seals. So it's really something quite unique.»

From there, we move to the Jesko's exceptional V8 engine, getting an up-close look at its internals. Everything is bespoke, down to the last bolt, and made of ultra-lightweight materials, leading to a mere 416 lb engine weight.

This allows the company to add some artistry to the engine, like with the inclusion of the Koenigsegg
