V8-Only Ford Mustang 60th Anniversary Package Summons the Spirit Of The 1960s

On this day, exactly 60 years, 11 presidents, multiple gas crunches, and economic meltdowns ago, Ford launched the Mustang at the New York World’s Fair. And to celebrate that milestone, it’s come up with an anniversary package for the 2024 car that draws inspiration from the original.Both coupes and convertible models are eligible for the package, whose trim riffs heavily on details available on the original Mustang.

Highlights include new 20-inch wheels finished in Dark Gravity Gray with machined details and Vermillion Red, stamped aluminum center caps, anniversary badges on the fenders and trunk, and a serialized 60th-anniversary plaque on the instrument panel.Related: The Ford Mustang Is Turning 60, Which Generation Did It Best?There are also special retro side graphics available in either Iconic Silver or Vermillion Red, a new mesh grille, and the smoked headlights from the Mustang Nite Pony package come standard. Buyers can give the old-time details a modern twist by ordering their car in Race Red or Vapor Blue, or fully embrace the spirit of the 1960s by selecting Wimbledon White.

White cars come with body-color mirror cars, but red and blue models get silver ones to recall the chrome mirrors on the first Mustang.While the original Mustang was available with both an inline six-cylinder and V8 powertrain, Ford is restricting the anniversary kit to V8-powered versions of the current model. The pack can only be ordered on GT Premium Mustangs, but buyers do get the choice of manual and auto transmissions.Ford is only making the package available to 1,965 buyers, a reference to the Mustang’s official first model year.

But, as fanboy pedants will happily point out, technically it was only the first full model year because the Falcon-based two-door arrived midway through the 1964 model year as a 1964.5.The 60th Anniversary package will be available for order from this summer and Ford says it will reveal prices closer to that time.
