Kia has trademarked the Syros nameplate in India, and sources tell us that this name will be used for the upcoming compact SUV codenamed AY. Kia had previously also trademarked the name 'Clavis' for the said model.
The electric car market seems to be cooling down after years of growth. However, Kia's EV onslaught is proceeding as originally scheduled with more models on the way. The next in line will be the brand's cheapest zero-emission offering: The EV3. It was shown in concept form last November at the Los Angeles Auto Show and now it's almost ready for the limelight.
Along with the Kia EV3 coming later this year, and the EV4, plus the EV5 for global markets, the automaker's working on a refreshed version of its first battery-electric vehicle for the U.S. market, the EV6. Proving that the design juggernaut won't stop anywhere in the Hyundai Group, the EV6 went on sale here less than three years ago as a 2022 model. But doing everything to maintain focus on its commitment to EVs, Kia wants its veteran rocking the new family look so everyone on the street knows what's what.
Kia teased the production version of the EV3 concept before the crossover's global debut May 23. Based on the angles we see so far, and as usual for the brand, there isn't much difference between the show car and the one that will sit on dealer floors later this year. The Star Map lighting on the production version is a little different. The headlights have been trimmed a touch and feature horizontal elements in as on the EV9 and K4 instead of vertical elements. The taillights look to be the same size, but the diagonal contrast on the concept is now a pattern of vertical lines running into the tailgate. That's it for the apparent changes so far. Here's to hoping the concept's four-spoke wheels make the cut, too.
The upcoming Kia EV3 SUV, the Korean brand’s entry-level born EV, will debut globally on May 23. Kia has confirmed this development and released some teaser images of the production-spec EV3. The EV3 was shown as a concept last year, and the snapshots confirm that the production car would closely mirror that concept. The vehicle will feature boxy, angular lines reminiscent of the flagship EV9 that sits atop Kia’s growing range of bespoke EVs; its wheels will be pushed towards the corners to extend the wheelbase and maximise interior space.
Kia’s first EV for India has been confirmed as an electric version of the Carens. But we also know that an electric Seltos is in the works and the upcoming Kia EV3 SUV is a prologue of what’s to arrive in the future.
