4th-gen incoming, this Maruti car has 29 lakh sales, it's not WagonR or Baleno

Maruti Suzuki India is all set to launch the fourth-generation avatar of the popular Swift hatchback on May 9. The Swift is one of the largest-selling cars ever in the country at almost 29,00,000 units. Yes, you read it right, 29,00,000 units!

A lot of changes have been made to the new Maruti Suzuki Swift. But we believe the most important is the addition of six airbags right from the base variant. The new Swift is the first Maruti Suzuki hatchback to get six airbags as standard.

If we talk about other safety features of the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift, it has electronic stability control (ESC), anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and brake assist (BA).

With six airbags, we expect the fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift's performance to be better than its one-star show at Global NCAP. The third-generation model scored one star each in adult safety and child safety at Global NCAP.

In terms of exterior elements, the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift gets a redesigned front and rear with new grille, LED headlamps with LED DRLs, LED taillamps, bumpers and alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, you find a dash layout similar to that of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. There are features like a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, instrument panel and automatic climate control. The car now gets a 360-degree camera as well.

The new Maruti Suzuki Swift does not employ the 1.2-litre K-Series Dual-Jet Dual-VVT 4-cylinder petrol engine (90PS and 113Nm). Instead, there is the new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine (82PS and 113Nm). The transmission options remain same at 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT. The claimed mileage has increased to over 25kmpl.

While the third-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift is priced between Rs 6.24 lakh and Rs 9.28 lakh (ex-showroom), the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift price in India is expected to be between Rs 6.25 lakh and Rs 9.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
