This plant can now produce 9 lakh Maruti cars every year, capacity enhanced by 1 lakh units

Maruti Suzuki India has expanded the production capacity at its Manesar facility by 1 lakh units to a total of 9 lakh units per annum. The enhancement has been done through the commissioning of another vehicle assembly line.

The new assembly line has been added to the existing Plant A of the three manufacturing plants at Manesar. Several Maruti cars like the Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, WagonR, Dzire, S-Presso, Ciaz and Celerio are manufactured at the Manesar facility.

Maruti inaugurated the Manesar facility in February 2007 with the start of Plant A. The carmaker added Plant B in 2011 and Plant C in 2013.

In an official statement, Maruti said that the Manesar facility has contributed over 95 lakh units in the carmaker's significant production milestone of 3 crore vehicles.

«We aim to nearly double our capacity to 4 million vehicles per annum over the next 7–8 years and this capacity addition of 1 lakh vehicles per year is a step towards this goal. It will help us serve our customers faster and enhance our overall capability to manufacture up to 23.50 lakh units per annum,» said Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India.

«This new assembly line adopts technologies that enhance human ergonomics, improve productivity and enhance traceability,» he added.

While the annual capacity at the Manesar facility now stands at 9 lakh units, Maruti's Gurugram facility can produce 7 lakh units every year and the Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) facility 7.50 lakh units.
