Bharat NCAP results of Baleno, Brezza, Grand Vitara to be out any time: Maruti

The Bharat NCAP results of the Baleno, Brezza and Grand Vitara could be out any time now, according to a senior Maruti Suzuki India official.

Maruti offered the Baleno premium hatchback, the Brezza compact SUV and the Grand Vitara mid-size SUV for testing their crash safety performance under Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP).

Replying to a question from India Today regarding the Bharat NCAP results of the three cars, at the FY24 financial results press conference, Maruti Suzuki India Corporate Affairs Head Rahul Bharti said: «We are expecting them any time.»

«As of now, the results are not known. We have offered these three models for testing for Bharat NCAP,» he added.

Bharat NCAP, which is a voluntary program, applies to the M1 category of vehicles with gross vehicle weight less than or equal to 3,500kg. The M1 category includes vehicles used for the carriage of passengers, comprising not more than eight seats, in addition to the driver's seat.

Bharat NCAP requires testing of the base variant of any given model. The cars are assessed based on their performance in three key areas of adult occupant protection, child occupant protection and safety assist technologies.

The crash tests include offset deformable barrier frontal impact test, side impact test and pole side impact test. The frontal impact test is conducted at a speed of 64kmph, the side impact test at 50kmph and the pole side impact test at 29kmph. The cars are then rated on a scale of one to five stars.

Till now, Bharat NCAP results have been declared for two vehicles — Tata Safari and Tata Harrier. The two SUVs have garnered five stars in both adult and child occupant protection categories.
