Omoda 7 Is Chery’s Latest Plug-In Hybrid Crossover With A 746-Mile Range

Chery has presented the latest model adorned with the Omoda badge in the form of the Omoda 7. Presented at the Beijing Auto Show, this crossover will be positioned above the Omoda 5 and rival the likes of the Toyota RAV4 in select global markets.Found beneath the skin of the new Omoda 7 is a stretched version of the Omoda 5’s platform. It is 4,621 mm (182 inches) long, 1,872 mm (73.7 inches) wide, and stands 1,673 mm (65.8 inches) tall with a 2,700 mm (106.2-inch) wheelbase.

While Chery has said the SUV is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged plug-in hybrid powertrain, it hasn’t provided specifications for this setup. Nevertheless, the engine is thought to produce 115 kW (154 hp) and 162 lb-ft (220 Nm) of torque. Chery has said the SUV can travel up to 59 miles (95 km) on electric power and roughly 746 miles (1,200 km) on a tank of fuel.Read: Chery’s iCar Expands Its Lineup With Rugged Minivans And Tougher SUVsVisually, the crossover is quite an edgy little thing.

The headlights are sharp and pointed and there is an unconventional grille that catches the eye. This show car has been finished in white with black adorning the pillars and roof, adding to the sporty design. The carmaker itself hasn’t released any photos of the SUV’s rear end but a browse online shows it has intricate LED taillights. Found in the cabin is a large 15.6-inch Tesla-esque infotainment display and a slim digital instrument cluster.

Chery has also fitted wireless smartphone charging pads very similar to those of the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. Heck, even the steering wheel has similar scroll wheels to current Teslas. All Omoda 7 models will arrive as standard with a 12-speaker sound system that includes 2 additional speakers in the driver’s headrest for phone calls and navigation prompts. Chery will launch the Omoda 7 in global markets, including the UK, Australia, and South Africa, in 2025.
