Honda recalls 52,000 vehicles in Australia for fuel pump fault

Honda has recalled more than 52,000 examples of the Civic, CR-V, HR-V, Jazz, City, Civic Type R, NSX, Odyssey and Accord in Australia due to a potential fuel pump fault.

It is the third recall notice to be issued by Honda in Australia for the fuel pump fault, which has affected more than 4.5 million vehicles globally.

Most, if not all of the 52,051 vehicles in the latest recall – which affects Civic, CR-V, HR-V, Jazz, City, Civic Type R, NSX, Odyssey and Accord vehicles built from 2017 to 2020 – appear to be new to this notice.

For example, it now includes the Odyssey people mover in Australia – while the list of affected vehicles shows nearly five times as many Civic Type R hot hatchbacks.

In 2021 Honda Australia recalled 54,300 examples of the Civic, Civic Type R, City, Jazz, CR-V, HR-V, Accord and NSX.

The latest recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: «Due to an improper manufacturing process, a component within the fuel pump could swell causing the fuel pump to become inoperative.

»If the fuel pump stops working, this could stop the engine from starting or stall the engine while driving. This may increase the risk of an accident and may result in serious injury to vehicle occupants and/or other road users."

Honda Australia advises in the recall notice: «Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and advised to take their vehicle to a Honda Service Centre for repair.

»Consumers can also contact the service department of their preferred Honda Service Centre to make a booking to have the repair conducted free of charge, subject to parts availability," the recall notice reads.
