Dodge Hornet Outsells Alfa Tonale 10:1, Stellantis Sees 10% Drop In Q1 Sales

First quarter sales results for Stellantis are in and they’re 10 percent lower than they were in 2023. That figure takes into account the Jeep, Ram, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo brands. Digging a little deeper into the numbers reveals some big wins, some surprising losses, and some predictable results as well.The downturn in sales comes mostly from big dips from Ram and Dodge.

The truck brand saw a 26 percent decline in total sales year over year. Dodge saw a 16 percent drop. Interestingly, it also lends credence to Alfa Romeo execs who reportedly fumed at Dodge’s use of the Tonale platform for the Hornet. As Carscoops said in that report, “Alfa dealers are going to look like idiots trying to sell the $43,485 Tonale, which is effectively the same car that the Dodge dealer is offering over the road with a sticker starting of $31,400.” Sure enough, the Hornet outsold the Tonale more than 10-1. Alfa Romeo managed to sell just 728 examples of its supposedly more luxurious, but basically, near-identical crossover.

It actually outsold the Giulia which had 640 sales. Unsurprisingly, the Stelvio led the way with 917 sales to help the brand see only a 4 percent decline overall.Notably, almost every single Jeep vehicle saw a bump in sales during the quarter. The two models that didn’t include the Cherokee which is now out of production and the Grand Cherokee with zero increase or decrease statistically.

Overall, the brand was up two percent which is a win after all it has been through in recent months to increase sales.Another New Dodge Viper And Chrysler 200 SoldChrysler was up nine percent and Fiat saw a 12 percent increase though that was simply from 138 sales in Q1 during 2023 to 154 sales this year. The full report has some other interesting tidbits as well. For example, Dodge actually sold a ‘brand new’ Viper last year along with two Caravans.
