Toyota 4Runner Debuts as Fortuner’s American Twin

Toyota USA has unveiled the all-new 4Runner after 15-year time span since its predecessor was released. The local branch of the Japanese company has also confirmed that the local market has the Fortuner meaning the 4Runner will remain an American offering only.

More than 15 years after its predecessor arrived, Toyota has finally revealed the updated 4Runner which is touted to continue the off-road and rugged prowess the American nameplate has garnered over the years. With its predecessor looking long in the tooth several years ago, the newest iteration of the venerated model has arrived with fresh styling and Toyota’s latest technology.

Renault’s New-Generation Duster Slated to Arrive in Q4

The TNGA-F-based has binned the outdated 4.0-litre V6 for a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine. With 204 kW and a substantial 512 N.m, it’s a leap forward in performance, offering significantly more torque than before. An optional I-Force Max hybrid variant offers buyers even more of a punch with an output of 240 kW and 630 N.m, both paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

In terms of drivetrain options, there are several to choose from including two-wheel drive, part-time four-wheel drive, and full-time four-wheel drive configurations. All models boast a limited-slip differential, while 4WD variants add an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case and Toyota’s Active Traction Control (A-Trac). The new Stabilizer Bar Disconnect Mechanism enhances articulation, allowing the 4Runner to navigate challenging terrain with ease.

Renault Reinvigorates B-Segment with Updated Captur

The latest iteration of the 4Runner also introduces Mud, Dirt, and Sand modes, complemented by a quieter Crawl Control function. Additionally, a new Trailhunter trim joins the lineup, featuring off-road enhancements like 33-inch tyres, lifted suspension, and steel skid plates. On the other end of the spectrum, the Limited trim offers luxury touches such as heated second-row seats and a head-up display.
