The United Auto Workers (UAW) have expanded their protest action against General Motors, with the Spring Hill, Tennessee engine plant now included in the strike, reports Reuters.
Earlier in the week, the United Auto Workers (UAW)union and Ford struck a historic labor deal that gave workers pay raises, cost-of-living allowances, and retirement improvements, among other things. It's a deal that is now acting as the template for both Stellantis and GM. The former of which has now reached a tentative deal with the UAW which will also see it reopen the Belvidere, Illinois plant.
It was Ford last week, Stellantis over the weekend, and now General Motors who was able to reach a tentative deal with the United Auto Workers to call off a strike that's lasted more than a month and cost Detroit's Big Three billions of dollars.
General Motors and the United Auto Workers (UAW) union have reached a tentative agreement, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters, effectively ending the first simultaneous strike against the Detroit Three automakers with record wage and benefit hikes.
UAW's deal with Stellantis revealed a critical piece of the company's pickup strategy: a new midsize truck will be built in the USA. The automaker committed to building a new midsize gas-powered truck at the Belvidere, Illinois facility, which was previously scheduled to be shuttered. Stellantis employees, which include workers at Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and others, will also see notable pay increases, among other benefits.
DETROIT — The United Auto Workers union has widened its strike against General Motors, the lone holdout among the three Detroit automakers, after reaching a tentative contract agreement with Jeep maker Stellantis.
The United Auto Workers has made a tentative deal with Stellantis that follows a template set by UAW and Ford. The deals will amount to total pay hikes of more than 33% when compounding and cost-of-living are factored in. The contracts will start with an initial increase of 11%.
Chrysler parent Stellantis and the United Auto Workers were nearing a deal that could be finalized as soon a Saturday to end a six-week-old strike, sources told Reuters.
