Italdesign Quintessenza is part GT, part pickup, all EV, with tons of tech

It's been awhile since Lamborghini-owned Italdesign showed a proper 4x4 concept car, that being the 2013 Parcour concept. Before that, the last four-wheel-drive experiment the Italians take credit for was the Panda 4x4 from 1980, which morphed into the Lancia Delta. The Italians figured this year's Beijing Motor Show was the right time to do it again, flying into China with the Quintessenza concept that's part high-riding fastback GT, part pickup, and all-electric. Aimed at that most popular segment, youthful types who live in the city but love nature, with the money to enjoy both, Italdesign says the Quintessenza is «inspired by the concepts of flexibility, freedom, sportiness, and duality in concept and architecture.»

MG EXE181 concept looks to brand's need for speed today and in the past - autoblog.com - China - Britain - city Beijing - county Oxford

MG EXE181 concept looks to brand's need for speed today and in the past

MG turns 100 years old, and what a long, strange trip it's been for the brand that started as a promotional project for Morris Garages in Oxford, England. Now a property of Chinese state-owned automaker SAIC, the latest incarnation of MG has been putting cars on dealer lots since 2007 and doing a fine job of it; the brand sold nearly 850,000 cars last year, 88% of them exported to international markets. For its Eastern home show, MG took a page from its past in showing the EXE181 concept. A pure-electric single-seater, it's the rebirth of the 1957 and 1959 MG EXE181 that broke land speed records at our own Bonneville Salt Flats. It was nicknamed the Roaring Raindrop and powered by a supercharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder MGA engine making 290 horsepower. Stirling Moss drove the 1957 effort to a top speed of 245.64 miles per hour, with fellow F1 driver Phil Hill outdoing that two years later by going 254.91 mph after the engine had been turned up to 300 hp.

'Fallout' TV show's most interesting car hides in the background of episode 1

Amazon MGM Studios aired the first season of its new TV show «Fallout.» It's based on the long-running video game series that takes place in an alternative universe based on 1950s ideas of futurism, with it all leading up to all-out thermonuclear war and the aftermath. So to fit the look, any scenes that take place before the nuclear war feature '50s dress, political ideology, and, of course, automobiles. Most of the cars in the show are actual production vehicles from the time period. One of the main characters, Cooper Howard, drives a gorgeous yellow Kaiser Darrin, and there's even a scene that showcases the car's super cool sliding pocket doors. A Messerschmitt tandem bubble car also makes an appearance (and there are lookalikes that you can find in the game). But the most interesting and unique car shows up in the first episode, and amazingly, it's hidden in the background of various shots.
