LAS VEGAS — This is the eVTOL Flying Car from XPeng Aeroht, which as the name and eight carbon fiber whiring blades would suggest, is a flying car concept (among others from this CES and past ones). All those blades fold into the body, allowing you to drive down the street without taking anybody’s head off. And to be clear, that would absolutely happen. They’re basically at neck level for almost every adult.
Multiple car companies have shown concepts for VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) aircraft in the past few years, and in varying degrees of plausibility. But it seems Hyundai might be the most serious. At CES 2024, its aircraft-specific subsidiary Supernal showed he latest development of the vehicle called S-A2, along with some specifications.
Honda did its part to turn CES into the automotive kickoff show of the 2024 season Tuesday when it unveiled the first two concepts in its new «0 Series» (Be cool, BMW!) line of all-electric vehicles slated to arrive in the U.S. in 2026. Sony Honda Mobility returned to CES this year to show an updated version of their Afeela concept. Attention is already on Suzuki products headed to the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon thanks to Japanese tuner DAMD. The company turned two Suzuki Jimnys into the Little 5, a tribute to Renault's 5 Turbo and 5 Turbo 2, and the Little Delta, a tribute to the Lancia Delta Integrale. Suzuki's got a trio of its own creations on the way as well, highlighted by new conceptual takes on the Swift hatchback and Spacia kei van that differ from the ones shown during the Tokyo Auto Show. The star player is the new, fourth-generation 2024 Swift hatchback that's probably best considered an evolved third-gen, here called the Swift Cool Yellow Rev Concept for not-exactly-obvious reasons. Solely a flashy cosmetics package, the design drapes a black roof and black roof pillars over a greenish yellow body and dinky black wheels. The grille wears gloss black above a front splitter, the LED headlights and taillights get smoked lenses, and the vinyl wrap advertises the arrival of the front-wheel-drive variant that went on sale in Japan in December.
