Thought Creta, Santro or i20 is top-selling Hyundai ever? This car is way ahead

Hyundai Motor India is the second-largest carmaker in the country in terms of volumes. It has a formidable product portfolio with cars across hatchback, sedan, SUV and EV segments. Among its popular models are the Grand i10 Nios, i20, Verna, Exter, Venue and Creta. But do you know which is the best-selling Hyundai car ever in India?

A lot of people think that the Hyundai Santro is the carmaker's largest-selling car. There is no doubt that the Hyundai Santro was extremely popular among the buyers. But sadly, it is not the best-seller. For that matter, the Hyundai i20 and the Hyundai Creta are also not the top sellers. Then which car is?

The honour goes to the Hyundai i10 family, which includes models like the Hyundai i10, Hyundai Grand i10 and the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. Since its introduction in India in 2007, the Hyundai i10 family has clocked cumulative sales of nearly 3.3 million units.

The Hyundai Santro, in its two stints, first from 1998 to 2015 and then from 2018 to 2022, has posted cumulative sales of over 2 million units. Launched in India in 2008, the Hyundai i20 has garnered cumulative sales of around 1.4 million units.

The immensely popular Hyundai Creta has registered cumulative sales of over 1 million units. The vehicle entered the Indian market in 2015 and has ruled the mid-size SUV segment since then.

The popularity of the Hyundai i10 family can be gauged from the fact that only the Maruti Suzuki Alto family has achieved more sales in the history of the Indian car market at over 5 million units.

At present, the Hyundai i10 family is represented by the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, which is priced between Rs 5.92 lakh and Rs 8.56 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios employs a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine, which develops 83PS of maximum power and 114Nm of peak twisting force. The engine is mated to a 5-speed MT. There is also a CNG option (69PS/95Nm) with a 5-speed MT.
