The Cross Continent Nissan Daring Africa Expedition Nearly at its end in Egypt

Nissan’s Daring Africa 2024, a cross-continental expedition featuring four Nissan Navara pick-ups and an X-Trail SUV, is nearing completion in the final Egypt-leg, following the penultimate stop in Kenya.

“It’s been an incredible journey. We wanted to highlight our African footprint and celebrate our 60-year legacy of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) on the continent. This expedition has taken us across Africa in vehicles designed and built by Africans, showcasing our manufacturing hubs in South Africa and Egypt.” – Maciej Klenkiewicz, Managing Director for Nissan South Africa and Independent Markets Africa.

Starting in Rosslyn, South Africa, the expedition made its way through Mozambique’s Maputo, then headed inland towards Zimbabwe’s Eastern Highlands. After a stop in Harare, the expedition ventured into Zambia, continuing eastward to Malawi via the Luangwa Valley. The journey through Malawi led to Tanzania’s northern regions, ultimately reaching Kenya. In Nairobi, the expedition visited the Nairobi National Park and Nissan Kenya’s showroom, where they met with local media and executives from Crown Motors, a subsidiary of Motus Africa.

This cross-continental expedition is critical in showcasing the Navara’s tough capabilities, which is slated for launch in North African markets, including Egypt, which is where the expedition will come to an end. In addition, a sole Nissan X-Trail, which was launched in South Africa last April and in Egypt last August, accompanied the Navara convoy on the journey, also demonstrating its prowess.

Motus Africa, which represents Nissan in Kenya and other East African markets, played a key role in the expedition’s success. Tim Jaques, CEO of Motus Africa, joined the media on an off-road experience in the hills outside Nairobi, reinforcing the Navara’s durability. “The Daring Africa expedition is a testament to the reliability of the Navara,” said Jaques. “The fact that the team drove their unmodified Navaras from Rosslyn to Kenya without a single mechanical issue or even a flat tyre is remarkable.”
