Tayron Set to Take the Reigns from Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace

Volkswagen is set to shake up its SUV lineup as it officially confirms that the Tiguan AllSpace will soon be replaced by the eagerly awaited Tayron as its go-to seven-seat SUV. The shift signals a new era in Volkswagen’s offerings, especially in South Africa where the Tiguan has already gained a solid reputation.

As originally speculated, the revered Tiguan AllSpace will be laid to rest and replaced by the MQB-Evo-based Volkswagen Tayron. Originally known as the Tiguan L Pro in China, the global variant will wear the ‘Tayron’ badge and promises a seamless blend of power and efficiency. Under the bonnet, we can anticipate a choice between a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and a diesel counterpart, both equipped with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Notably, the Tayron could possibly offer a Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle variant, featuring a 1.5-litre TSI engine coupled with an electric motor and a 19.7 kWh battery pack. This environmentally conscious configuration allows for an all-electric range of up to 100 km, with the added convenience of a 50 kW DC charge capability.

Positioned strategically in the T-Family lineup, the seven-seat Tayron SUV will occupy the space between the compact Tiguan and the flagship Touareg. This move bridges the gap, providing consumers with a compelling option for those seeking a larger SUV without venturing into the Touareg’s premium price range.

Volkswagen Tayron will reportedly replace Tiguan Allspace in future

In terms of pricing, the current Tiguan range is priced between R625 000 to R1 058 900, while the Touareg starts from R1 393 800 to R1 698 300. Although the exact pricing for the new 3rd-gen Tiguan is yet to be revealed, the model is confirmed to arrive locally later on this year.

Volkswagen’s commitment to making the Tayron a global model is evident, with production planned across Germany, China, and Mexico. The brand’s CEO, Thomas Schäfer, envisions the Tayron as a vehicle with widespread appeal, and considering the popularity of the Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace in South Africa, the prospect of the Tayron
