The BMW i5, a recent entrant in BMW’s electric vehicle (EV) lineup, has garnered considerable interest for its blend of sustainability and performance. To understand its place in the evolving EV landscape, let’s delve into its performance metrics. Starting with its weight, the i5’s 2 358 kg mass, evenly distributed with a 50:50 balance between the front and rear, sets the stage for stable handling and control. This weight, while substantial, aligns with the expectations for vehicles in its class.

Acceleration tests paint a picture of the i5’s agility. Clocking in at 4.02 seconds for the 0-100 km/h sprint and 8.59 seconds to reach 160 km/h, the i5 demonstrates competitive acceleration capabilities. Additionally, its ability to cover 200 metres from a standstill in 13.97 seconds highlights its prompt response to driver input. The i5’s top speed of 229.83 km/h places it firmly within the realm of high-performance EVs, catering to drivers who seek both efficiency and excitement in their daily commutes or long-distance journeys.

In longer distance trials, such as the 400-metre and 1-kilometre sprints, the i5 maintains respectable speeds, further solidifying its performance credentials. These metrics, alongside in-gear acceleration figures of 0.69 seconds (40-60 km/h), 0.74 seconds (60-80 km/h), 0.98 seconds (80-100 km/h), 1.23 seconds (100-120 km/h), and 1.51 seconds (120-140 km/h), provide a comprehensive understanding of the i5’s instant accelerationcapabilities across various driving scenarios.

Braking figures are another critical aspect of the i5’s performance profile. With an average stopping time of 2.90 seconds, which includes a best stop of 2.79 seconds and a worst stop time of 3.01 seconds, and an average distance of 42.96 metres. It’s essential to note that all tests were conducted under standard conditions, with an
