Only this mid-SUV has sold 1 million units, Grand Vitara, Seltos, Scorpio not even close

When one thinks about the mid-size SUV segment in India, a lot of models come to mind, such as the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and the now-discontinued Renault Duster. However, there is one model that has absolutely dominated this space. It is none other than the legendary Hyundai Creta.

Launched in India in 2015, the value-for-money character of the Hyundai Creta has made it a best-seller. A winner right from the beginning, this mid-size SUV segment leader has clocked sales of more than a million units at 1,040,964 units till now in the domestic market.

The popularity of the Hyundai Creta can be gauged from the fact that it is averaging over 15,000 units per month in volume in 2024. This is following its best-ever annual performance at 157,311 units in 2023.

That the Hyundai Creta is way ahead of its direct rivals can be seen from the volumes. For reference, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara posted 113,387 units in 2023, while the Kia Seltos was at 104,891 units during the year. The Scorpio, including N and Classic, registered sales of 121,420 units in 2023.

Hyundai Motor India Chief Operating Officer (COO) Tarun Garg recently told India Today that Creta has made Hyundai a household name in India with every generation doing better than before.

At present, the Hyundai Creta is sold in India in two avatars — the standard version and the N Line. While the standard version is priced between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 20.15 lakh (ex-showroom), the N Line sits in the price range of Rs 16.82 lakh to Rs 20.45 lakh (ex-showroom).

According to analysts, qualities like efficient engines, a spacious cabin and a host of features, particularly those on the dashboard, have worked in favour of the Hyundai Creta. They also said that the Hyundai Creta is a very reliable vehicle with low ownership cost and high resale value.
