Only 3 SUVs in India have clocked 1 million sales, not Nexon, Seltos, Bolero, Fortuner

India became the third-largest car market in the world in FY24, ahead of Japan, and only behind the USA and China. And SUVs now account for over half of the cars sold in the country. But do you know that only three SUVs in India have been able to cross sales milestone of 1 million units.

Among the popular SUVs in India are the Tata Punch, Tata Nexon, Tata Harrier, Tata Safari, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Mahindra Bolero, Mahindra Thar, Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Venue, Hyundai Creta, Toyota Fortuner, Kia Sonet, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and MG Hector.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Creta and Mahindra Scorpio are the only three SUVs that have clocked volumes of more than 1 million units.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza was launched in India in 2016. It is now priced between Rs 8.34 lakh and Rs 14.14 lakh (ex-showroom). The compact SUV employs the K15C 1.5-litre petrol engine (103PS and 137Nm) with 5-speed MT and 6-speed AT options. There is also a CNG version (88PS and 121Nm) with a 5-speed MT.

Introduced in India in 2015, the Hyundai Creta is currently available in two versions, the standard and the N Line. While the standard version of the Hyundai Creta is priced between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 20.15 lakh (ex-showroom), the Hyundai Creta N Line sits in the price bracket of Rs 16.82 lakh to Rs 20.45 lakh (ex-showroom).

The standard Hyundai Creta has three engine options — 1.5-litre MPi petrol (115PS and 144Nm), 1.5-litre Kappa Turbo GDi petrol (160PS and 253Nm) and 1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel (116PS and 250Nm). The 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine has 6-speed MT and IVT automatic options, while the 1.5-litre Kappa Turbo GDi petrol engine gets 7-speed DCT automatic only. The 1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine can be paired either with a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT.

The Hyundai Creta N Line employs the 1.5-litre Kappa Turbo GDi petrol engine (160PS and 253Nm). However, unlike the standard Hyundai Creta, the Hyundai Creta N Line has both manual (6-speed MT) and automatic (7-speed DCT) options.
