Mercedes EQS Facelift, G-Class EV And GT 63 S E Performance Set For Auto China Debut

China is one of Mercedes’ most important markets and the brand is showing that by announcing plans to introduce a handful of models at Auto China. Highlights include the facelifted EQS as well as the all-new G-Class EV and GT 63 S E Performance.The latter model will be the first out of the gate as Mercedes-AMG will unveil the GT 63 S E Performance on August 20 in Shanghai.

The car is slated to have a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, a small battery pack, and an electric motor.

This setup mirrors the SL 63 S E Performance and will give the car more than 789 hp (588 kW / 800 PS).A few days later, on April 24, Mercedes will introduce the G-Class EV. The company has been teasing the model for what feels like an eternity and said it’s an off-road icon “reimagined for the electric age.”The electric SUV will follow in the footsteps of the facelifted variant that was introduced last month, but sport a fully enclosed grille, improved aerodynamics, and a charging port where the fuel filler is normally located.

The model will also have a square ‘spare tire carrier,’ which is presumably a lockable box like on the EQG concept.Speaking of EVs, Mercedes said the EQS will “celebrate a new era in China with a host of upgrades.” The company didn’t say much about the “updated” model, but spy photographers have previously caught prototypes with camouflaged front and rear ends. Besides exterior styling tweaks, we can expect a modernized interior with a freestanding digital instrument cluster and a new infotainment system with a portrait orientation.
