Chery Jaecoo J7 for international market debuts at Beijing Auto Show

Jaecoo, Chery’s sub-brand specially built for the overseas markets, is expected to enter the British market in the summer of 2024. Its first model, Jaecoo J7 – a rebadged PHEV version of the Chery Tansuo 06, recently debuted at the Beijing Auto Show. The new car might launch in the UK in June 2024 with an approximate starting price of 40,000 British pounds (50,000 USD/354,000 yuan).

It is worth pointing out that earlier this month, Jaecoo announced that its J7 will start accepting reservations in Malaysia in April, available in front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive for consumers to choose from. The first batch is expected to be delivered to Malaysian customers in the third quarter of this year.

The appearance of the Jaecoo J7 is the same as that of the Chery Tansuo 06. The major difference is the Chery letter logo on the front grille has been replaced with the “JAECOO” logo.

For reference, the 2024 Chery Tansuo 06 measures 4538/1898/1680 mm with a 2672 mm wheelbase. The Jaecoo J7 is expected to carry the same size. From the side, the new car adopts a suspended roof design, paired with hidden door handles and five-spoke rims. A panoramic sunroof is also present.

Power comes from a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 1.6T engine and dual electric motors. The engine has a maximum power of 194 hp and a peak torque of 290 Nm. It takes 8 seconds to accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h. Seven terrain driving modes are supported. Furthermore, its comprehensive cruising range is 1,200 km while its pure electric cruising range is roughly 100 km. At this time, Chery has not officially confirmed the powertrain spec.

The interior remains consistent with the Chery Tansuo 06. There is a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel, a 14.8-inch vertical central control screen, and a D-shaped steering wheel. A level 2 advanced driving assistance system is also not absent, featuring adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and blind spot detection. In addition, other configurations include seat heating, seat ventilation, and a refrigeration function in the center console.
