Mahindra XUV400 likely to get new variants

The Mahindra XUV400 variants could soon undergo a major rejig. Sources tell us that eight new offerings are on the way. The current line-up has three options, and it is not yet clear whether the company will continue selling these after the launch of the new variants.

  1. XUV400’s new line-up could include eight variants
  2. Smaller 34.43kWh battery pack to offer higher range than before

Mahindra XUV400: new variants

Mahindra XUV400 is currently offered in EC Pro, EL Pro and the EL Pro option with a larger battery pack. The new variants are expected to be named EC L, EC L (O), EC LL, EL LL (O), EL LH, EL LH (O), EL PH and EL PH (O). There will be three battery packs available — a 39.4kWh unit offering 456km range (unchanged), a 34.43kWh battery with a 402km range (+27km) and a 39.4kWh battery with different cells and a range of 444km (new).

The power output for all the battery pack options remains unchanged at 150hp. The 310Nm torque figure is also likely to stay the same. It is yet to be seen if there will be any other mechanical changes or new feature additions.

We reported in December that Mahindra is also working on introducing <a href=«http://» https:>a new EV powertrain

for the recently launched XUV 3XO. The XUV 3XO EV (name not confirmed) will have similar design updates as the ICE version but will feature some EV-specific styling tweaks.

Mahindra XUV400: price, rivals

Mahindra XUV400 is priced from Rs 15.49 lakh to Rs 17.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The carmaker had announced that the electric SUV would see no price cuts, citing similar moves by rivals. In fact, Mahindra had said the XUV400 would receive a nominal price hike after May 31, 2024.

The XUV400 is a direct rival to the Tata Nexon EV and also faces some competition from the MG ZS EV, which sits a segment above.
