Lexus Introduces LC 500h as V8 Drops Two Cylinders

Unveiled in 2018, the Lexus LC 500 made quite a splash with its distinctive style and performance. Now, as it strides into its second generation for the 2024 model, a few noteworthy changes have been introduced.

Externally, the spindle grille, now chrome-finished with a mesh design, steals attention with a dynamic tension that evolves across the car’s front. The LC’s unique lighting signature, featuring independent daytime running lights in an arrowhead layout and ultra-compact triple LED headlamp units, contributes to a sleek headlight design, facilitating a low bonnet line and a short front overhang.

The exterior boasts a no-compromise design, complete with 21-inch run-flat forged alloy wheels, a standard retractable-wing boot spoiler, and a carbon-fibre roof. At the rear, the roof gracefully tapers between muscular wheel arches, emphasizing the car’s wide and stable stance, while the spindle shape reappears in a three-dimensional form, seamlessly flowing from front to rear.

Inside, standard features of the LC 500h include Alcantara seat trim, electrically adjustable and heated front seats, a heated 3-spoke steering wheel, a 13-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, a panoramic-view monitor, a 12.3-inch multi-information display, and a head-up display. Under the surface, the 5.0-liter V8 makes way for the LC 500h’s powertrain, housing a 220kW 3.5-liter V6 engine from the LS 500h.

This self-charging full hybrid system, with Lexus’ Multi Stage Hybrid System, delivers a total system output of 264 kW. Lexus has upped the maximum engine speed to 6 600 r/min while maintaining the 0-100 km/h acceleration time at five seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h. Described as smooth and hushed, the V6 promises fuel efficiency during throttle openings.

Power gracefully flows to the rear wheels through the LC hybrid’s electronic CVT with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The multi-stage hybrid system seamlessly blends electric and petrol power, ensuring optimal performance across varied driving conditions for a responsive and engaging ride. For those eyeing this beauty, the Lexus LC
