Kawasaki Ninja 400 Discontinued, Succeeded By Ninja 500

The Kawasaki Ninja 400 has been discontinued in India. Its successor, the Kawasaki Ninja 500, is now being sold at the same price tag of Rs 5,24,000. The Ninja 500 was launched in February 2024, and both the bikes were sold together till the Ninja 400 stocks lasted. However, the Ninja 400 was then sold with a discount of Rs 40,000, bringing its price down to Rs 4,84,000 (both prices ex-showroom).

What the Ninja 500 helped Kawasaki to do is to create a big enough gap between the entry-level Ninja 300 and its more premium offering, the Ninja 500. That said, the Ninja 300 is a very dated motorcycle and has not received a real update since forever. This is especially so when you consider the way the 300-500cc segment in India has shot up in recent times with the introduction of bikes like the KTM 390 Duke, TVS Apache RTR 310, Aprilia RS 457 and the Triumph Speed 400.

The Ninja 500 is powered by the same 451cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine as the Kawasaki Eliminator, and produces a peak output of 45PS at 9000rpm and 42.6NM at 6000rpm, paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch.

The closest rival to the Kawasaki Ninja 500 is the made-in-India Aprilia RS 457 which is priced at Rs 4,10,000 and is Rs 1,14,000 more affordable. Another smaller alternative can be the Yamaha R3, at Rs 4,64,900 (both prices ex-showroom Delhi).
