Isuzu Introduces Inaugural D-Max Electric Bakkie

Isuzu has taken a significant stride into the future with the unveiling of its first-ever battery electric vehicle (BEV) – the D-Max BEV Bakkie.

Set to debut in Europe in 2025, this groundbreaking vehicle will make its initial appearance at the 45th Bangkok International Motor Show. The Isuzu D-Max has a storied history, earning a reputation for rugged performance and durability in both commercial and passenger applications. Now, with the introduction of the D-Max BEV, Isuzu aims to marry this legacy with cutting-edge electric technology to meet the evolving needs of the planet, consumers and businesses alike.

The D-Max BEV boasts a distinctive design, featuring unique styling cues that distinguish it from its diesel-powered counterpart. Notable changes include a largely closed-off front grille, augmented with striking blue accents, and a reworked front apron with increased black sections.

Under the metal, the D-Max BEV harnesses the power of the Elf EV’s battery pack and management system, integrated into the sturdy ladder-frame chassis. With a 66.9 kWh energy capacity, this electric bakkie employs two electric motors—one on each axle. The front motor delivers 40 kW of power and 108 N.m of torque, while the rear motor churns out an impressive 90 kW of power and 217 N.m of torque. Combined, the D-Max BEV boasts a total power output of 130 kW and 325 N.m of torque, ensuring good performance in various driving conditions.

In terms of capability, the D-Max BEV has a full-time four-wheel drive and a top speed exceeding 130 km/h, this electric powerhouse promises to tackle off-road challenges with ease. It boasts a towing capacity of up to 3.5 tonnes and can carry a maximum payload of 1 000 kg, offering practicality without compromising performance.

While details regarding range, charging capacities, and pricing remain under wraps, anticipation mounts for the official launch.
