ISUZU and Engen gear up for another 1 Tank Challenge

Isuzu and Engen are teaming up once again for another edition of the 1 Tank Challenge. Following the success of last year’s event, which we were proud to be a part of, this year’s challenge will showcase the new Isuzu MU-X 1.9 TD LS instead of the D-Max 1.9 Ddi manual bakkie.

Participants will embark on a journey from Johannesburg to Gqeberha via East London, powered solely by a single tank of Diesel. The event aims to highlight the exceptional fuel efficiency and cost-saving benefits of the ISUZU MU-X 1.9 TD LS. Selected media representatives will put a fleet of these vehicles through their paces from April 27th to April 30th 2024, on a trip from Gauteng to the Eastern Cape, testing how far they can go on one tank and their fuel consumption along the way.

Renowned for its excellent fuel economy, low operating costs, robust performance, durability, and reliability, the ISUZU 1.9 engine has earned the trust of commercial fleet operators and motorists alike. The ISUZU MU-X 1.9 TD LS is equipped with a 1 899 cc four-cylinder intercooled turbodiesel engine, delivering 110 kW at 3 600 r/min and 350 N.m between 1 800 and 2 600 r/min, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.  In terms of design, the ISUZU MU-X boasts distinctive interior and exterior styling features that blend comfort and elegance. Fortunately for this year’s participants, they won’t be experiencing the base model Isuzu D-Max work horse on their long journey.

Reflecting on my  past  experience at the One Tank Challenge with Isuzu, despite the challenges and rugged terrain in the Isuzu D-Max, the memories of the breathtaking scenery, the warm hospitality of the people we encountered along the way, and the sense of achievement from completing the journey with just one and a quarter tank of fuel remain vivid. It’s a road trip that will forever be etched in our memories, reminding us of the splendour and diversity of South Africa and the thrill of adventure that comes with exploring the open road in Isuzu.
