Former F1 Champ Jenson Button Suits Up For Porsche For The 2024 WEC Season

The expanded WEC grid will see the return of former Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button to the sport. Per Motorsport, the 43-year-old British racing driver will race full-time in a Porsche 963 with Hertz Team Jota.

Button will be driving the #38 hypercar along with teammates Oliver Rasmussen and Phil Hanson. «I'm thrilled to racing with Hertz Team Jota in the 2024 WEC alongside my team-mates Oliver and Phil,» said Button.

Of note, Hertz Team Jota's Porsche 963 LMDh race cars will be wearing a golden livery designed by Singer — best known for its classic Porsche 911-based projects.

Button was supposed to be teaming up with fellow former F1 champion Sebastian Vettel. But with the driver lineup now set, it seems the talks between Vettel and the team went south. Former F1 driver Robert Kubica was also supposed to be in the mix, but apparently, he will be driving for AF Corse in a Ferrari 499P.

The 2024 season may have lost teams like Glickenhaus Racing, but it will bring new and exciting contenders, such as the Lamborghini Iron Lynx with a Lamborghini SC63, which was revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year. The BMW M Team WRT will also enter two M Hybrid V8s.

Button will be tasked to pilot the Porsche 963 to victory, including at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans against the likes of the Toyota GR010 Hybrid and 2023 Le Mans winner Ferrari 499P. This will follow the British driver's outing with Garage 56 in a modified Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 at the 2023 Le Mans.

Ahead of the start of the WEC season in Qatar in March, Button will make his second outing for WRTAndretti in an Acura ARX-06 LMDh at IMSA's season-opening Daytona 24 Hours.
