The Koenigsegg Gemera is finally here in production form. The absurd four-seater hybrid hypercar was first teased three years ago with a concept car claiming big horsepower numbers and even cooler technology behind it. You can have it with your choice of two powertrains: a 2,300-horsepower hybrid using the V8 from the Koenigsegg Jesko, or the technology-packed twin-turbocharged three-cylinder hybrid.
Koenigsegg's reinterpretation of its original road car in the CC850 highlights just how far the groundbreaking supercar maker has come in the last 20 years. Possibly the most interesting piece of engineering in this boundlessly clever car, though, is its transmission: it's both a quick-shifting performance automatic and an old-school, three-pedal manual. That's something no other car has ever offered and going by how Christian von Koenigsegg talks about it, it's a piece of tech other carmakers may want to look into.
The C8 Chevrolet Corvette cracked the domestic mid-engine sports car code when it was revealed in the summer of 2019. Sub-three-second zero to 60 runs and a V8 behind the driver typically meant six-figure price tags—but not anymore thanks to GM. Despite it being in a class of its own due to its roughly $60,000 starting price and performance specs, it's caught the attention of automotive bigwigs such as Koenigsegg founder, Christian von Koenigsegg. In conversation with him at The Quail during Monterey Car Week, Koenigsegg told me how impressed he was with the 'Vette's value.
At roughly $3.4 million, the Koenigsegg Jesko hypercar is one of the most expensive and exclusive vehicles money can buy, and it only makes sense that its key is just as interesting. It's just a fob, sure, but it comes packaged like a crown jewel. In a video posted to Instagram, Koenigsegg recently showed off just how special this key is.
Athletes often like to say that it's much harder to stay at the top than to get to the top, as a target is immediately put on their back the moment they reach the summit. This appears to be the case in the hypercar world, too, as the recent acceleration king of EVs, the Rimac Nevera, has been dethroned by the hybrid V8-powered Koenigsegg Regera.
