The endurance test, which took place from 25 to 26 April, was designed to evaluate the PHEVs under a range of driving conditions. The course led the vehicles from the permanently gridlocked streets of Beijing, through the cultural city of Jinan, and past Qufu, the birthplace of Confucius, before reaching the final destination in Wuhu. This route offered a mix of urban traffic, highways, and scenic countryside roads, providing a comprehensive test of the vehicles’ capabilities. Chery has completed a 1 214 km endurance drive among the bustling Chinese metropolises and open country roads. Here are some details.

Chery to Present Next-Gen Tech at Auto China

Starting in Beijing, the two models had to navigate dense city traffic, which Chery claims was a perfect opportunity to test the low-speed driving capabilities and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Both the Tiggo 9 and Arrizo 8 are equipped with Chery’s fifth-generation 1.5TGDI hybrid-specific engine paired with a third-generation DHT hybrid transmission. This combination delivered the necessary power output while ensuring smooth and efficient switching between power sources. The Tiggo 9 boasts a remarkable 1 400 km range of PHEV driving, and its 20-minute rapid charging capability proved invaluable during the endurance test.

The ADAS suite on both models, including adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane departure warning (LDW), automatic emergency braking (AEB), and blind spot detection (BSD), played a significant role in reducing driver stress during the endurance drive according to Chery. These systems not only enhanced safety but also contributed to overall driving efficiency, particularly in congested traffic. In addition, the Chinese automaker further added that the comfort features, such as a massage function for the driver’s seat and noise-reducing glass with environmental noise cancellation (ENC), made the long drive
