Budget-priced Fiat Panda electric car leaked in patent images

Patent photos of what appears to be the new electric Fiat Panda have been spied online ahead of its mid-2024 in European showrooms.

Images of the electric Panda have appeared on website Motor1 ahead of the Fiat’s official unveiling expected in the coming months.

Fiat has confirmed a cut-price electric version of its urban SUV will be introduced in July 2024 alongside heavily updated petrol models.

The electric versions will reportedly be badged ‘New Panda/Panda-e’ with petrol models using ‘Panda 500’.

Neither Panda nor New Panda are confirmed for Australian showrooms according to Fiat Australia, with buyers instead offered the electric Fiat 500e – in local dealers since late 2023.

The patent images show a city-sized SUV without badges, but there are a number of clues indicating it is the first look at the New Panda.

The ‘underbite’ front end has a full-width light bar without a large grille – suggesting this is an electric vehicle – with smaller lights positioned below much like the Fiat Concept Centoventi.

The Fiat Concept Centoventi was a city-sized battery electric vehicle show car – a five-door hatchback featuring customisable body panels and interior parts – revealed by the Italian car maker at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

The patent images of the unbadged new vehicle also show three diagonal lines in what looks an homage to the grille of the original Panda sold overseas from 1980.

There are more clues at the back, with ‘squircle’ taillights – a trademark shape of the Panda emerging on the second generation from 2003, but heavily applied to the design inside and out of the third generation.

The squircle appears throughout the third-generation Panda – the only iteration sold in Australia from 2013-15 – from the headlights and tail-lights, gear leaver and prolific Easter eggs throughout.

The vehicle in the images has a full-width horizontal bar dissecting the tailights, as well as the rear ‘underbite’ bumper, both Centoventi design cues suggesting this is the 2024 electric Panda.
