BMW touts the latest Competition Sport badged model to offer a perfect blend of power, agility, and speed. The newcomer will slot between the M4 Competition and the ultra-focused CSL and will arrive with more horsepower, less weight, and serious performance upgrades. Behind the still-controversial front-end styling, the M4 CS shares the same 405 kW twin-turbocharged inline-six engine as the M3 CS. With 650 N.m of torque which propels the model to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds before being capped at 302 km/h. This performance is delivered through the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system and an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.

In testing at the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife circuit – the place BMW claims is the ultimate barometer for all M cars – the new BMW M4 CS recorded an official and notarised time of 7:21.989. for the full 20.832 km lap. Though expectedly not as fast around the Green Hell as the CSL, the M4 CS’s lap time is just 1.5 seconds shy of its hardcore sibling. All of this comes at a price, which includes VAT and a motorplan…

Back to the topic of how the Bavarian firm managed to create this track-capable coupe then? Weight reduction on the CS is courtesy of incorporating carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) into various body panels, trimming 20 kg compared to the M4 Competition. Carbon fibre is used in the bonnet, front splitter, and rear diffuser, along with the centre console, paddle shifters, and other interior components. The M Carbon seats and the exhaust system have also undergone weight-saving modifications. To maximize its track performance, the model will receive exclusive forged light-alloy wheels and track tyres as standard. The wheels which measure 19-inch at the front axle and 20-inch at the rear are fitted as standard with track tyres but can be specced with ultra track tyres as an option.
