50 years of Swaraj: Company unveils limited edition tractor variants, new CSR program

Leading tractor manufacturer, Swaraj Tractors, celebrated its 50th anniversary earlier this week by unveiling limited edition variants for its XM, XT and FE range of tractors. The Mahindra Group firm also announced its new CSR program, Skilling 5000.

The first tractor to roll out of the Swaraj plant in Mohali, Punjab, was the Swaraj 724 (26.5hp) on April 14, 1974. In 2007, Mahindra acquired Swaraj's parent, Punjab Tractors Ltd, and created Swaraj Division. Swaraj crossed sales of 20,00,000 units in 2022.

The limited edition variants have been introduced for five Swaraj models — 843 XM, 742 XT, 744 FE, 744 XT and 855 FE. For reference, these five models were launched by the company in September 2023. They sit in the 40hp-50hp category, which forms nearly 58% of the Indian tractor industry by volume.

To be available for only two months across the country, the limited edition variants come with golden decals and the signature of Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is also Swaraj's brand ambassador.

«Very few brands and businesses are successful, loved, admired and respected. We have as Swaraj the loyalty, respect and admiration of our customers. We have that with our dealers, suppliers and all the stakeholders this brand deals with,» said Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO (Auto and Farm Sectors), Mahindra.

«We hear the word 'atmanirbhar' so much today. That word was invented by Swaraj. This was a mission to make India atmanirbhar 50 years back so that we did not have to depend on anyone else in the world for our food needs. We have gone way beyond that and Swaraj has been an important part of the journey,» he added.

Under Skilling 5000, Swaraj will empower women and the specially-abled by providing vocational skills in agriculture and other trades.

The golden jubilee celebrations witnessed the culmination of 'Josh Ka Swaran Utsav', a nationwide campaign that returned after traversing the length and breadth of the country and visiting over 50,000 customers.

Swaraj also unveiled a coffee table book, which gives a vivid account of the company's 50-year journey.
