The 2023 Japan Mobility Show managed to serve up a surprise heap of exciting and futuristic designs and production reveals. Our staff was on the ground in Tokyo for this year's show, where we captured not just all of the latest automotive trends, but some genuinely weird and fascinating stuff.
The 2025 Infiniti QX80 is all-new from the ground up. It boasts a clean body style with anti-wedge proportions that exemplify the brand’s Artistry in Motion design language. It retains its body-on-frame architecture and seven or eight-seat cabin but has more room for people and cargo versus the 2024 model. In what seems to be an ongoing trend, the QX80 has a reimagined face with a bamboo forest-inspired double-arch front grille, an illuminated 3D Infiniti badge, LED driving lights on both sides of the upper grille, and combination headlights set lower in the façade. Meanwhile, the clean-shaven style includes flush door handles and a full-width LED light bar at the rear with a smoked appearance and lighting elements arranged to mimic “reflections of light upon a body of water,” Infiniti said. NEW YORK — In addition to providing thoughts on a future Xterra while at the New York International Auto Show, Nissan Americas Senior Vice President and Chief Planning Officer Ponz Pandikuthira also talked with us a bit about EVs, and more specifically model lines and nameplates. We've seen a few strategies ranging from almost completely new and parallel model lines (such as Hyundai's Ioniqs and Kia's EV#s), to reusing old names on still similarly parallel models (such as Chevy's Equinox, Blazer and Silverado EVs), and of course blends of the two. So far, Nissan has gone with the separate model route with Leaf and Ariya, but that may not be as much the case in the future.
The New York Auto Show, like many other shows over the past few years, has shrunk. But it's still playing host to some interesting reveals, and we even got a few surprises this year. It was dominated by Nissan and Hyundai Motor Group products, but ones running the gamut from affordable cars to flagship SUVs. It was a strange situation of being both quite diverse in reveals, and not at all, depending on how you looked at it. Our favorites of the show are a clear representation of that. But really, we've been done since about mid-morning on Wednesday. As you'll see from the paltry selection of galleries below, the 2024 New York Auto Show wasn't much of one. And what there was? Well, in a word, it was Hyundai.

Infiniti is kicking off their product renaissance with the unveiling the redesigned QX80. It’s a fitting choice as the SUV serves as both the brand’s flagship and a window into its future direction. The new generation of the full-size luxury SUV, codenamed Z63, couldn’t come soon enough, as the current model has been on the market for a staggering 14 years, first introduced in 2010 and having received two facelifts in 2015 and 2018.While the 2025 QX80 clearly acknowledges the past, it adopts Infiniti’s streamlined ‘Artistry in Motion’ design language that was previewed by the QX Monograph concept.
