TOKYO — Japanese automaker Honda reaffirmed its commitment to electric vehicles Thursday, saying it will invest 10 trillion yen ($65 billion) through fiscal 2031 to deliver EV models around the world, including the U.S. and China.

Tesla recently lowered the price of its “Full Self-Driving” (FSD) driver assistance tech and offered a one-month free trial of the software, but those measures don’t appear to have had the intended impact. InsideEVs reported on figures from YipitData and Moomoo Technologies that show only a tiny fraction of the trial users signed up to pay for FSD.

Dealers are receiving more new inventory, causing new car prices to fall for some models. That said, EV price cuts are more aggressive than those for comparable gas models, and many vehicles saw significant price hikes in April 2024. CarGurus released its April Intelligence Report, which found that higher inventory levels and longer periods spent sitting on dealer lots have driven some new car prices down, but EV inventory and pricing are leading the way.
When full-size pickup trucks were first equipped with diesel engines in the late 1970s, it wasn’t part of an effort to post huge performance numbers. Instead, General Motors’ much-maligned 350-cubic-inch diesel V8 was tuned primarily to sip fuel and spun out a paltry 120 horsepower. Dodge’s Mitsubishi-built diesel six-cylinder was even less powerful with around 100 horses on tap.
