This SUV will be launched in all-black avatar on April 10; Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier-rival

MG Motor India will launch the MG Hector Blackstorm edition in the country on April 10. Other SUVs of the carmaker, such as the MG Astor and the MG Gloster, already have the Blackstorm version.

The MG Hector Blackstorm will have red accents all around, including inside the cabin. It will get features like LED headlamps and taillamps, blacked-out grille and alloys, an all-black cabin with black-coloured upholstery having red accents, touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument panel and a panoramic sunroof.

The Hector, which is the volume driver for MG, is priced between Rs 13.99 lakh and Rs 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Although it is bigger in dimensions, the MG Hector rivals the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos, among others, in terms of price point. It also takes on the Tata Harrier.

Talking about powertrains, the MG Hector has two engine options and as many transmission choices. You can either have the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine (143PS of maximum power and 250Nm of peak) or the 2.0-litre diesel engine (170PS of maximum power and 350Nm of peak torque). The petrol unit can be paired either with a 6-speed MT or a CVT automatic, while the diesel unit comes mated to a 6-speed MT with no option for an automatic transmission.

According to data from the industry-body Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), MG improved its domestic market share from 1.15% in FY23 to 1.26% in FY24. The carmaker's retail sales jumped 18.82% year-on-year at 49,737 units in the last fiscal from 41,859 units in the previous fiscal.

Apart from the Astor, Hector and Gloster SUVs, MG also sells the Comet EV and the ZS EV. Among all these vehicles, the sales are highest for the Hector, which is also the first vehicle to be introduced in India by the carmaker.
