Tata Altroz Racer set to launch next month

The Tata Altroz Racer is all set to go on sale in India early next month. The sportier version of the Altroz hatchback made its debut at last year’s Auto Expo, then made its reappearance at this year’s Bharat Mobility Show with slightly different looks.

  1. Altroz Racer to get Nexon's 120hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine
  2. Will likely be the hatchback's new flagship variant
  3. Directly rivals Hyundai i20 N Line

Tata Altroz Racer: new engine

Powering the Tata Altroz Racer will be the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine as the Nexon. It puts out 120hp and 170Nm of peak torque – 10hp and 30Nm higher than the Altroz iTurbo. The Altroz Racer will likely be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission only.

Tata Altroz Racer: exterior, interior and features

The Altroz Racer will get a dual-tone paint scheme along with twin racing stripes on the bonnet and roof. It will also feature ‘Racer’ badging on the front fenders, a slightly revised grille and new alloy wheels. On the inside, the hatchback is expected to offer new leatherette upholstery with contrast stitching and coloured accents on the dashboard.

The equipment list will include a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, segment-first ventilated front seats, 360-degree camera, a heads-up display and a voice-assisted sunroof. These features will also be carried over to the regular Altroz at a later stage. The Racer line-up will also get six airbags and ESC as standard.

Tata Altroz Racer: expected price, rivals

Pricing for the Tata Altroz iTurbo ranges between Rs 9.20-10.10 lakh, however, the Altroz Racer will be positioned above that as the flagship trim. It will directly put up against the Hyundai i20 N Line in India, which is priced from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 12.52 lakh. The Altroz Racer could also see competition from the turbo-petrol variants of the Maruti Fronx and Toyota Taisor, depending on the pricing.

All prices, ex-showroom India
