OFFICIAL: Lamborghini Huracan Successor Going Hybrid, Second EV Coming in 2029

Lamborghini has announced its plans for the rest of the decade, confirming that the successor to the Huracan will be a plug-in hybrid and revealing that two fully electric vehicles will arrive by the end of 2029. The news came in the form of a presentation detailing the Italian automaker's refreshed Direzione Cor Tauri strategy, taking into account all elements of the production process.

As Chairman and CEO Stephan Winkelmann put it, this is a «cradle to grave» strategy that aims to reduce the total emissions of a car by 40%, from the moment the first component is manufactured by a third-party supplier to the moment that the car becomes unusable, including all the fuel it burns. Making this goal all the more noteworthy is that Lamborghini says it currently only contributes 0.001% to global emissions.

Admirable, but what else have we learned about the cars themselves?

Lamborghini says that «in 2024, the electrification process will extend to the launch of the first hybrid version of the Urus Super SUV and the second HPEV [High Performance Electric Vehicle] in the range, replacing the Huracan.» The hybrid Urus is nothing new, and neither is the confirmation that the Huracan's successor will be electrified, but now it's been spelled out.

What is news is that after the production version of the Lanzador arrives in 2028, Lamborghini intends to introduce its «first full electric Super SUV in 2029.» That tells us that another EV will arrive after last year's Lanzador concept reaches production, but it also tells us that the Lanzador won't necessarily be an SUV.

Instead, Lamborghini describes it as an «Ultra GT 2+2.» Somebody, please tell us the Estoque theory still has merit.

In summary, Lamborghini's presentation told us little that we didn't already know, but it did highlight that Lamborghini is working very hard to reduce emissions, and that means so much more than just selling EVs; it means cleaning up in every aspect possible. For example, Lamborghini has already reduced water consumption in the production and painting of every single car by a respectable 34% and has planted some 10,000 oak trees.

With efforts like these, a clear hybridization program (starting
