MG Cyberster Red Top Edition launched at 51,500 USD

The MG Cyberster special “Red Top Edition” (传奇四驱红篷版) officially launched priced at 365,800 yuan (51,500 USD). This electric convertible sports car features exclusive pearl-white paint combined with a red convertible roof to imitate the classic colors of MGA, MGB & MG Magnette. The first round has an initial release of 100 units. Delivery is expected to start in March 2024. The Cyberster was first launched at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China. The price ranged from 319,900 to 359,800 yuan (45,100 – 50,700 USD) in three trims.

Morris Garages, MG, a British brand that brought us classic roadsters like the MGB and MGF, has a rich history in sports car development since its establishment in 1924. MG is now owned by SAIC Motor Corporation. Known for its roadsters and sports cars, MG has entered the electric era with the MG Cyberster.

The chassis tuning of the Cyberster is performed by the Italian DANISI team from the former F1 Ferrari team. The power train of the special edition has not been revealed. For now, let’s look at the dual-motor version of the Cyberster currently on the market as a reference. It features a front permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum power of 150 kW and a rear motor with 250 kW. The combined power output of 400 kW enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. The high-performance variant has a 77 kWh battery with a commendable CLTC range of 520 km.

MG claims the Cyberster’s side profile showcases classic MG design. The interior features a cockpit-like design with Nappa leather seats, a carbon fiber central panel, and a driver-centric three-screen layout. The steering wheel includes paddle shifters for mode switching.

In December, the Cyberster achieved over 300 units in sales, standing alongside the Porsche 911 and 718 in Mainland China.

In 2023, MG achieved global sales surpassing 840,000 vehicles, securing its status as China’s leading automotive brand in export volume for five continuous years. Nearly 380,000 MG vehicles found buyers in 16 regions, spanning Western Europe and Australia. MG4, MG ZS, and MG5 models all claimed spots in the top ten for exports.
