It is absurd that GMC only offers one shocking color for the Hummer EV: Afterburner Tintcoat, an eye-searing tangerine. Ordering GMC’s self-proclaimed “supertruck” in rental-car silver would be akin to whitewashing Saint Basil’s Cathedral. This design is at its best when screaming for attention. Obviously, when faced with a lineup of Hummers to test, I asked for the bright orange one, cranked up some ‘80s rock, and made sure all eyes would be on me.
MOAB, Utah — The title of our First Drive of the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV included the phrase, «It's big, but this elephant can dance.» The truck earned that compliment after a day of squeezing through San Francisco lanes and the slightly-more-commodious back roads in Napa Valley. But an SUV can't be called a supertruck without equivalent mastery on dirt, so GMC led a posse of media to Moab, Utah to run the Hummer's favorite stomping grounds.

As JLR prepares for the debut of its first electric Range Rover, it is also gearing up to reveal the most extreme V8-powered 4x4 it has yet produced. The Defender Octa will be revealed on July 3 as a highly exclusive and extremely capable super-off-roader, which is set to use the twin-turbocharged, mild-hybrid 4.4-litre V8 from BMW, as deployed in the X5 M and X6 M SUVs.

You can spot a 2024 Jeep Gladiator over the outgoing model by its black grille. There are two updates of actual significance: The truck now has curtain airbags (pretty cool for a convertible) and a significantly sleeker dashboard screen. Most importantly it’s still an absolute hoot to drive in the right situations.
