Turning 70 this year, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta remains a beloved icon in automotive history, widely regarded as “Italy’s sweetheart.” Here is a brief history of the pretty coupe.
The modern SUV has become the “car” of choice for most, and it’s not hard to fathom why. Seating room, cargo space, and the higher driving position are a given. Although some SUVs have morphed from everyday vehicles to high-performance machines capable of outrunning a sports car. They say any publicity is good publicity. It's true in the case of Alfa Romeo's new crossover. Company CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato says the website crashed following the controversy surrounding the initial name chosen for the firm's first EV: "We had an unprecedented number of visits to the online configurator, causing the website to crash for a couple hours."
The unusual tale of Alfa Romeo caving to political pressure over the name of a small SUV has captivated the world over the last week. Apparently, the automaker's website crashed as a consequence of the headlines and, if you run PR for the Italian marque, you really can't be too disappointed about the publicity that the formerly Milano, now Junior has received. Thing is, this isn't the first time Alfa Romeo has had to walk back a name change of a new model at the last minute. Even more amusingly, this isn't even the first time it's happened to a car that was going to be called «Milano.»
Milano no more — Alfa Romeo’s ‘Milano’ moniker has been legally banned by the Italian government, resulting in the automaker having to change the name. The firm’s newly-released SUV will now be called ‘Junior’.
The Alfa Romeo Milano was introduced less than a week ago, but it’s already undergone a major change. In fact, it’s no longer even called the Milano. The surprising development comes shortly after Adolfo Urso, Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, suggested the name was illegal.
