After being in a deadlock with the Big Three automakers for months over member wages and benefits, three strategically chosen production plants will go on strike until an agreement is made. This means certain Fords, Chevys, and Jeeps won’t be rolling out of factories.
The United Auto Workers (UAW) union is about to enter its seventh day on strike after being in a stalemate with the «Big Three» Detroit automakers—Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis—for months. Despite the union and automakers attempting to come to a deal, the organizations have been deadlocked and both sides are working to counter one another's offers.
Friday marked a week since the beginning of the United Auto Workers (UAW) stand-up strike, and entering the day it seemed inevitable that the trade group would expand its action. That has come to pass, but in a perhaps different way than anticipated. UAW President Shawn Fain called upon all of General Motors and Stellantis parts distribution center employees to go on strike, effective noon Eastern Time.
The Ford truck plant in Louisville, Kentucky is one of its most important. Ford builds Super Duty pickups, the Expedition, and even the Lincoln Navigator SUVs there, which makes it one of its most profitable and valuable plants. Last night, the UAW launched a surprise tactic by ordering a strike, effectively shutting down the plant and sending 8,700 workers home.
The United Auto Workers have expanded their ongoing strike against Detroit's «Big Three» by initiating a walkout at General Motors' plant in Arlington, Texas—one of the most profitable in the country. The UAW says GM's better-than-expected financial results for Q3 give it reason to double down and get a larger share of profits.
The UAW added another Detroit facility to its strike: Stellantis' Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) that builds the Ram 1500, among other vehicles. More than 6,800 workers are now striking one of Stellantis' most important and profitable plants, bringing the total number of striking UAW auto workers up over 40,000.

Workers walked out of the Arlington, Texas, plant that builds GM's full-size SUVs including the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade; this follows an expansion of the strike to Stellantis' Sterling Heights, Michigan, facility that builds the Ram 1500 full-size pickup truck.
